Summary
Do you have a "Click to activate and use this control" issue on your website?

Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 and Internet Explorer 7 requires users to click to activate embedded controls/applets (such as Java applets, Flash and ActiveX controls) since April 2006. This can lead to an annoying experience for users.

To resolve this issue, you can use an external javascript to load individual controls as detailed here. For large websites with many pages, it may be impractical to do so. ActivateAX is a JavaScript that provides a quick and convenient solution.

  • Purpose of ActivateAX is to provide a quick solution for large websites, until Microsoft resolves this issue.

Sometimes, when the embedded controls/applets load slower than ActivateAX script, then ActivateAX will fail. The result is a graceful degradation, and the web page will perform normally as if ActivateAX is never added. But after the first page load, the same page will perform fine, as all the controls are stored in browser cache.
